The original recipe of the Pina Colada was invented in Puerto Rico in 1954 by the bartender of a hotel. This cocktail, made from rum, pineapple and coconut, has been around the world. It is in Martinique and the West Indies, that we taste the best Pina Colada. Very simple and quick to prepare, the Pina Colada alone evokes the exoticism and warmth of the tropics.
Pour into the bowl of a blender (electric mixer) crushed ice. Add the white and amber rum, the pineapple juice, the lime juice and the coconut milk. Mix the ingredients for a few seconds until smooth. Pour the delicious mixture into a tall glass (tulip glass). Decorate the glass with a pineapple leaf and pineapple and a maraschino cherry. Serve with a straw. The original recipe of the Pina Colada is the one presented here but there are many variations. Some use Malibu, some fresh cream, and some more coconut cream. There is even a Pina Colada without alcohol: the Virgin Pina Colada.
To prepare a Blue Hawaiian for 10, 20, 30 or 40 people, simply multiply the quantities indicated in the original recipe by the number of glasses desired.
