The Tequila Sunrise is, with the Margarita, one of the most famous cocktails made with Tequila. Very simple and fast to prepare, this classic recipe is as delicious for the taste buds as for the pupils with its color gradient. The Tequila Sunrise recalls the splendid colors of a sunrise.
Fill a shaker with some ice cubes. Pour the white tequila and the fresh orange juice. Knock the ingredients for a few seconds to cool them and pass the drink in a highball glass (high cylindrical glass). Add a drizzle of grenadine syrup to create a gradient of sunrise colors. Do not mix and serve with a straw.
Use a grenadine syrup with high coloring power to create the gradient without putting too much and make the cocktail too sweet. For example, use Monin syrups.
To prepare a Tequila Sunrise for 10, 20, 30 or 40 people, simply multiply the quantities indicated in the original recipe by the number of glasses desired.
The recipe for the Tequila Sunrise cocktail is said to have been created in the 1970s by a drunken barman from San Francisco, who spent the night in a bar until the boss entered the room at 9am. The drunk bartender explained that he had waited for the sunrise to mix a cocktail imitating that moment. Naturally to prove his story he had to mix the cocktail in front of the boss and he luckily mixed a "tequila sunrise".
