Based on vodka, triple sec and cranberry juice, the Cosmopolitan is a cocktail midway between the Cape Codder and the Dry Martini. This classic has found a second youth with the series "Sex and the City" where the heroines drank regularly in the bars of New York. The Cosmopolitan is an elegant and refined cocktail that will appeal to women.
In a shaker half filled with ice cubes, pour vodka, triple sec (or Cointreau, or Grand Marnier), cranberry juice and lime juice. Close the shaker and strike hard for a few seconds. Pour in a martini glass by holding the ice cubes with a strainer. Decorate with a lime wedge.
Simple, quick to prepare and seductive with its sweet and fruity taste, the Cosmopolitan nonetheless remains strongly alcoholic. To consume so with moderation.
To prepare a Cosmopolitan for 10, 20, 30 or 40 people, simply multiply the quantities indicated in the original recipe by the number of glasses desired.
This cocktail of the "Martinis" category was first called Stealth Martini, the gay community of Massachusetts would have designed in the 1960s. The reappearance of this cocktail in the 1970s with the final name Cosmopolitan was a success with women and contributed to the fashion of women's beverages.
Today many bartenders snub the Cosmopolitan, it lacks complexity. Since 2004, the TV series "Sex and the city" has given a boost to this cocktail that is tasted frequently by heroines.
